A MODERN ROYAL HOUSEHOLD - the restoration of Frederik VIII's Palace

"A Modern Royal Household" is an exhibition of the exceptional restoration and contemporary artistic decoration of Frederik VIII's Palace in Copenhagen - the new residence of the Danish Crown Prince Couple. The exhibition displays the progress of the restoration from the early drafts of the involved artists, craftsmen and architects, to the final result. The Royal Family made a notable choice of inviting ten Danish contemporary artists to decorate a number of rooms in the old Palace, which gives the culture-historic building a remarkable modern touch.

The exhibition consists of 24 photographs taken by the Danish photographers Torben Eskerod and Roberto Fortuna. You can see a selection of these art works and read more about the artists on our "A Modern Royal Household"-page.

PER KIRKEBY and the "Forbidden Paintings" of KURT SCHWITTERS

In connection to the Danish presidency of the European Council and in collaboration with the Danish Cultural Institute/Benelux, BOZAR in Brussels presents an overview of the paintings from the widely famous Danish artist Per Kirkeby (b. 1938).

As one of the leading painters of the Danish avant-garde since the 1960's, Per Kirkeby has created a multifaceted body of work. While employing rupture, minimalism and abstraction he has drawn just as much on the figuration of Danish classicism and the experiments of masters such as Delacroix. His works are unpredictable and highly inspired by Kirkeby's past experiences with nature as a trained geologist. It is in this context that the Kurt Schwitters room in the exhibition is so relevant. Here Kirkeby is confronted with an unfamiliar figurative Schwitters, in love with landscape.

Time: February 10th - May 20th 2012
Place: Centre For Fine Arts/BOZAR, Rue Ravenstein 23, 1000 Brussels

This exhibition is a part of the theme: "LET'S DANSK" at BOZAR

The Danish Minister of Cultural Affairs visits The Danish Cultural Institute/Benelux

Minister Uffe Elbæk and the director of The Danish Cultural Institute/Benelux, Klaus Bondam.

Tuesday the 8th of November the Danish Minister of Cultural Affairs Uffe Elbæk visited The Danish Cultural Institute/Benelux together with the Danish ambassador in Belgium Poul Skytte Christoffersen. The topics of the visit were exchange of ideas, the history and work of The Danish Cultural Institute/Benelux and not least the potentials to strengthen the Danish contributions to the intercultural dialogue and international understanding.

The visit was also a chance to discuss the comprehensive cultural programme in connection to the coming Danish EU-presidency,- for instance the Per Kirkeby exhibition at BOZAR and a sharp focus on Danish films. The minister wrote in the guest book that he was "pleased to meet the outpostof Denmark - especially when there is a creative surplus energy to come up with new ideas for future projects." The Danish Cultural Institute/Benelux looks forward to the continued co-operation and dialogue.
