Hans Christian Andersen at Aruba

March 2006

In March 2006, Hans Christian Andersen was celebrated at Aruba. Dance, ballet, music, art, theatre and various exhibitions addressed the cultural heritage of the famous Danish author.

Institute leader Lone Leth Larsen took part in the festivities, and talked about the life of Hans Christian Andersen, the Danish school system and education traditions including "lifelong learning".

Hans Christian Andersen's fairytales were used as an inspiration in language classes at Aruba. Children at Aruba learn both Papiamento, Dutch, English and Spanish, providing rich opportunities to use Hans Christian Andersen.

On the 4th of March a film festival with contemporary Danish films was opened at Aruba. The films are:

  • Elsker dig for evigt
  • Festen
  • Mifunes sidste sang
  • Idioterne
  • The king is alive
  • Arven

The festivities have been successfully carried out thanks to Professor Mirto Laclé from The Pedagogical Academy, who has put a tremendous effort into the project.
