27x27x27 - Europalia In the film project 27x27x27 Europalia asks 27 different artists from the 27 EU-member countries to tell what they think is the emblematic European work of art. Among the many European artists you will find great names such as the Irish author John Banville, the Portuguese Nobel prize winner José Saramago and the Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki. From Denmark it is the prize-winning film director Christoffer Boe who will tell what he thinks is the emblematic European work of art. The film will be shown at the Belgian centre for fine arts Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels from the 5.10.2007 until the 20.01.2008. The Danish film director Jesper Jargil is going to visit the Belgian film school RITS on the occasion of Europalia. He is giving a masterclass to the students where he is going to present his to films "The humiliated" and "The purified" which both are about Danish Dogma films and the eccentric working methods of Lars von Trier. Jesper Jargil was born in Denmark in 1945. In "The Humiliated" director, Jesper Jargil, captures the vulnerable, stormy creative process which von Trier himself called "a whipped-up state of emotion that is the technique of the film itself". The result is a unique, frequently amusing portrait of Lars von Trier and his method. In "The Purified" Jesper Jargil documents the four principle Dogme artists' visions through to their completed films. Afterwards he confronts them with their actions and results - which are not always in accordance with the spirit of Dogme 95. With "The Purified" Jargil has created a unique record of a major epoch in the history of the cinema. Read more about the Europalia Festival here.
