Literature Coming events Writing in adopted language What does it mean to write in an adopted language? What are the cultural implications of writing in a new home country and in an adopted language? The Danish-Kurdish author Adil Erdem faces this problem in his writing. He is of Kurdish origin, but has been living in Denmark for many years. He writes in Danish and is very aware of the cultural implications of this double-language identity. Adil Erdem will read from his work and later on there will be opportunity for discussion (Dutch translation will be available). Registration required on info@dkibenelux.org before April 20 th . Seminar November 20th 2007 In the month of November the Nordic embassies and cultural institutes, in collaboration with Stiching Lezen, put focus on the rights of children and young people through literature. The event takes the shape of a seminar called 'Reading Reality -Sensitive Issues in Scandinavian Youth literature'. On the EUNESCO Day of Children's Rights, six Scandinavian youth authors will be introducing their work. They will discuss the approach to difficult topics in youth books in various countries. The guests are Johanna Thydell (Sweden), Harald Rosenlow Eeg (Norway), Daniel Zimakoff, Ida-Marie Rendtorff(Denmark), Riita Jalonen and Kaisu Rättyä (Finland). With an introduction by Anne Provoost. Previous events Literature Lunch - Kirsten Thorup The Danish Cultural Institute invited the Danish author Kirsten Thorup to a Literature Lunch held by the European Economic and Social Committee in Brussels. Kirsten Thorup read from her latest novel "Førkrigstid" ("Before Wartime") on the 21st of June. This Literature Lunch was the third of four with European authors, all taking place in June. The other three authors are Thomas Glavinic from Austria, Lajos Parti Nagy from Hungary and Bernardine Evaristo from the UK. The events were all part of the celebration of EU's 50th anniversary.
