Vox 11 - Danish a cappella choir

You almost can't believe your own ears, when the choir Vox 11 takes off. In their repertoire Nordic soundscapes sit next to modern American R&B, this makes the sound both contemporary and unique. Vox 11 consists of 13 singers and is headed by Gitte Frank and Morten Vinther Sørensen.

When Vox 11 released their album Takeoff in March 2008 the critics wrote; "Their (Vox 11 red.) CD Takeoff is a study in contrasts" and " Almost everything on this album conveys class and attention to detail". It is no wonder why Vox 11, has been recognized as one of the most groundbreaking a cappella choirs at our time. Prepare yourself for some groovy a cappella music.

The 26 th of September 2008 Vox 11 will take off at The Danish Cultural Institute at 19.30.

Koppel-Andersson-Riel Trio

The Danish saxophone player Benjamin Koppel , the Swedish bass player Thommy Andersson and the Danish drum player Alex Riel are a unique constellation of Nordic musicians.

The trio has a very international jazz sound. These musicians have known each other for many years - Alex Riel, as a long-time friend and music colleague of Benjamin's father, Anders Koppel, has seen Benjamin develop his musical talent from the very early years. And of course the younger Koppel and Riel had to play together at some point - and with quite an outcome. The musicians are highly professional and they have a great feeling for each other's way of playing. The trio plays in a classical jazz format as we know it from Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson and Lee Konitz and their repertoire is a formidable mix of new compositions, written by Benjamin Koppel, put together with standards from the long history of jazz.

Objective 2006-2007

A part from maintaining the existing contacts of music places in the Benelux, in 2006 and 2007 the Danish Cultural Institute Benelux wishes to strengthen the music efforts in the southern part of Belgium, the French speaking Walloon part. This is why the institute works on finding contacts to concert places and music press in this part of the Benelux.

The objective means that Walloon will be the biggest priority, when the institute helps Danish musicians with finding concert places for the next seasons. Obviously, all interested concert places in both Holland, Luxembourg and Belgium are taken into consideration.

SPOT ON Denmark

On the 3rd of November 2007 the club AB stage of Ancienne Belgique will host a concert, which puts the spot on the 4 Danish bands Murder, Figurines, Band Ane and Amber.

The bands have been chosen by Belgian journalists from De Standaard, Le Soir, De Morgen, Radio 1, FM Brussel and RifRaf as well as the venues Ancienne Belgique and Botanique. They were chosen amongst a group of 15 prominent Danish bands. In other words this concert brings the Belgian music lover the comfort of being served the Danish music Belgium wants in his/her "backyard"!

Priorities and conditions

The Danish Cultural Institute presents Danish music in Benelux. This includes music of all genres, for all kinds of events and for all audiences. The institute attaches great importance in creating genial soil for musicians who are unknown in Benelux or who have not yet performed there. We gladly receive all applications, and they will all be individually considered.

The Danish Cultural Institute enters into a not binding cooperation with musicians and cannot guarantee a concert. The institute's procedure is the following: when contacting music venues in Benelux, we look into what music they are interested in presenting. If a music venue approves a concert with the musicians, the institute will try to arrange more than just one concert for the musicians during their stay in Benelux.

In music cooperations the institute is only a mediator meaning that the institute will help create the contact between the musicians and the music venues. Also, the institute helps with PR and gives advice about financial support for transport and sponsorship. The musicians themselves are responsible for the application, e.g. for transport repayment by the national authorities or sponsorships etc. The music venues are responsible for arranging and carrying out the concerts and for payment of the musicians' stay and honorarium.

From 2006 the institute has introduced a honorarium of € 150 for each concert in order to pay for our administrative expenses. The institute hopes that you will appreciate this.
